NEM supports Water4Gambia

NEM Holding's corporate vision is 'Enabling the generation of energy in a way that makes this world a better place to live in, for present and for future generations.'

Consistent with our values and sense of social responsibility, the foundation "Water for Gambia" was found in 2009. Its aim is to provide the Gambian village of Badjaran with clean drinking water by installing a solar-driven water purification installation.

Central to the foundation's philosophy is the commitment of the local people themselves. Each of them has given his or her vote for the project. They carry out the installation while the foundation provides them with the means and organisational skills. Along the way, it is expected that modest economical opportunities will rise for Badjaran's inhabitants.

Please visit www.watervoorgambia.nl

Besides providing the foundation with the necessary financial support, NEM Holding wishes to involve its own people and make use of their organisational experience. By using our internal communication tools optimally, we expect our people to respond enthusiastically. Teamwork, passion, company pride and involvement are key assets of the people of NEM Holding. In the Badjaran project, we expect to embed these characteristics even deeper and stimulate cross-business unit cooperation.

The project is subsidised significantly by the Dutch NCDO, the National Committee for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development. Meanwhile, financial donations by and enthusiasm of other companies and individuals have amounted to such extent that the foundation may start similar projects for other villages in the coming years. It is NEM Holding's wish to remain a partner of these laudable initiatives, thus staying true to its aim to enable the generation of energy in a way that makes this world a better place to live in.

New order: Vasilikos Power Station, phase IV, unit 5

Recently NEM BV secured a new order for Vasilikos Power Station, phase IV, unit 5. Modular HRSG Systems has by now already started the engineering for this project. The new order is a continuation of the successful partnership between IUB and J&P AVAX. Earlier, IUB supplied two HRSGs for unit 4 (photo attached), which have recently been commissioned.

The principal, J&P AVAX, is a Greek EPC contractor. The end customer is Electrical Authority of Cyprus, the most important electricity supplier of the south part of Cyprus. NEM will supply two two pressure level HRSGs, each behind a GE frame 6FA. The gas turbines run on diesel, but in the future it is expected that gas will be available. Two steam turbines convert the steam produced into electricity. The HRSGs will work with highly variable loads, in a so-called 'start-stop' operation. The order includes two bypass systems to be supplied by NEM Power-Systems.

Magnum steaming ahead

Erection of the power plant was paused for over a year, while the proper license was being developed by the Province of Groningen. Meanwhile, manufacture of the NEM-components went on, so delivery would still be done without any delay.

The power plant will convert coal and bio mass into gas. NEMs three presssure level HRSGs, including reheat, will be capable of meeting the demands following from this higly innovative technology. Each HRSG will produce 94.3 kg of steam per second.

When ready, Magnum will be able to supply electricity to two million households each year.
